primrosePrimrose Cottage is one of the very best consignment stores in New Hanover County. We are very happy to welcome them as Business Members of The Federal Point Historic Preservation Society.

Sue and Doug Walker moved to North Carolina from the Hudson River Valley in New York State in 1994. Doug remembered that Sue had once told him, “I want to be an entrepreneur.” And what a great one she has turned out to be.

Sue and her daughter, Jill Lyons, opened the doors of Primrose Cottage in 2006. Primrose has a vast selection of consignment goods that are constantly changing from day to day. Nothing stays long enough to collect dust. And if it does over stay its welcome, it goes into the 50% off room in the back.primrose

Primrose Cottage is located behind the ABC Store in the Federal Point Shopping Center in Carolina Beach. They are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The phone number is 910-458-0144. New consignments are taken every day except Saturday.  They accept checks, credit and debit cards and, of course, cash is always welcome.

Don’t miss the next Primrose Market Place on Saturday, October 22, from 8 am to 4 pm.

The History Center is very proud to have Wilmington Water Tours as one of our Business Members. In fact, we are just plain proud to know these folks.

WWT #4We have taken several of their cruises up and down the Cape Fear River and many times accompanied by local historians narrating our journey. Folks like Dr. Chris Fonvielle and Beverly Tetterton tell us so much of what we never knew.

You really have to visit Wilmington Water Tours website to fully appreciate all the ways in which you can be entertained, whether it is a Sunset Cruise or a lazy day cruise sipping Bloody Marys, you will find something affordable and fun to do.

WWT #3Captain Doug Springer and his wife, Diane Upton, returned to Wilmington in 2004 to pursue their dream of life on the water.

The Wilmington is the first and finest state-of-the-art catamaran to serve Historic Downtown Wilmington, NC. She has a wake cancelling design and is fully enclosed (heat if needed).

She is handicap accessible and offers a flexible layout for comfortable seating up to 49 guests. All ABC permits and spacious restroom complete our package. Come downtown and visit us.  You’ll be impressed with our 46′ catamaran, The Wilmington.

Wilmington Water Tours is based out of Wilmington, North Carolina, here to serve the City and its new convention center. They offer sunset cruises and private charters. Their investment in the custom design and state of the art catamaran, The Wilmington, the first vessel of hopefully many, allows them to provide a wide WWT #3range of offerings.

Give these folks a look and let them know that you, too, are a member of the Federal Point Historic Preservation Society. And remember, they will donate a part of the ticket purchase price to the Historic

Society for every ticket purchased by members. To reserve tickets call FPHPS at 910-458-0502

July is “Beach Portrait” month on Federal Point. No better way to celebrate it than to shout out to our Business Member of the month, John Gregory Photography! For over thirty years, John Gregory has been photographing the southeastern United States. Many of his photographs were published nationally.

Locally, John Gregory made the 1970 portrait of Big Daddy, which is still being used as their sign in Kure Beach. His photos regularly appear in the Island Gazette, local newspaper. John is also an astronomer. His door has often been open to the public for special celestial events.

You may have seen John under the Fort Fisher live oaks or on the sand near the Coquina rock coaxing families to smile just once more. Having seen John Gregory work with families first hand, I can say that no one does it better. With John’s patience and world of experience, no family could be in better hands.

Think it is about time to get a professional set of photographs of your family done reasonably and locally? Take a John G 2look at his website. The “Portrait Tips” will get you started. It lets you know what times work best, how long it takes, and what to do to prepare.

Smart phone photos are great and convenient, but when you decide to frame a photo that you will remember for the rest of your life, let John Gregory take it. You will never regret it.

Thank you John Gregory Photography again for supporting the Federal Point History Center as one of our Business Members. We hope our members will return the favor very soon!
